Finding properties with soul is what has provided Teremok with an edge. With spectacular locations, it is no wonder that each property evokes an instant emotional response. Both Marine and Riverside have a poignant connection to water, an element which is renowned for its soothing and healing properties.
In each instance Debbie and Louis found existing homes which seemed to breathe, and rather than remove all evidence of the dwellings’ former lives, the design team were enthusiastically urged embrace them. Accentuating the sense of space of both interior and exterior, they ensured that both aspects seamlessly blended with the setting which became another crucial design element.
With each development it was decided to capitalize on the building’s original character, while injecting it with a vibrant sense of Teremok’s personality. The architecture had to be allowed to express its integrity.
In each instance the architecture and design was prescriptive. There was no blank canvas from which to start, and that what was lost in freedom was gained in soul and personality. Working within an existing building was certainly much more challenging on a design, décor and architectural front as everyone had to really push the boundaries. Within the enforced architectural parameters the owners applied a formula they believed in – a hybrid of good old fashioned homeliness and contemporary design that shamelessly borrowed from different time periods and moods. The result? Each property is a quirky space, rich in individuality and soul.
Both existing dwellings had similar adhoc arrangements of form and space. Imposing monolithic forms contrasted with the interiors which were fragmented and disjointed, but in the end this is what provided the framework for creating individual and interesting spaces.
It was imperative that the interior of each Teremok captured the essence of the setting along with the peace and harmony of the original home.
An infinite amount of thought was applied to the décor of each room, right down to the very last detail of what guests would be able to see when lying in bed.
It is this attention to detail that is so appreciated as it is part of a global understanding of luxury travel.
The look is deliberately uncluttered and the style ethos understated. It was always the intention that guests experience a feeling of anticipation on entering the property and for them to be pleasantly surprised each time they entered a different room or made a new discovery. The décor was allowed to toy with the property’s abundance of space, with touches of wit added to create a unique final product. What was so successful in the development of the interior is that each room was treated as a “person” with idiosyncrasies.
